Know all about PS3, PS4, and PlayStation 5 Gaming Consoles

With the release of the Sony PlayStation 5, Sony aims to take on both Microsoft and Nintendo. With a whole new architecture, superior resolution support, and faster storage thanks to the SSD, the PS5 console is better than the PS4 in almost every way – and this article has everything you need to know about Sony’s latest baby. The Sony PlayStation 5 is expected to have a big impact on the gaming world when it launches in November 2020. With new features and an updated design, this console is a major improvement over other consoles, with better graphics and more storage space, and whatnot.

The PlayStation 5, also known as the PS5 and, is a home video game console developed and produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is the sixth-generation console in the PlayStation series. The base model includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray optical disc drive, while the Digital Edition lacks this drive and is designed as a lower-cost version of the PlayStation 5. Join the next generation of consoles when you upgrade to the PlayStation 5. With a powerful AMD customized processor capable of 4K resolution game output, 4K resolution video streaming, hardware-accelerated ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and a DualSense controller with haptic feedback, the PS5 gives you a whole new way to play. Let’s get started to know more!

Latest and Advanced features of Playstation 5 Console-

The PlayStation 5’s main hardware features include a solid-state drive customized for high-speed data streaming to enable significant improvements in storage performance, an AMD GPU capable of 4K resolution display at up to 120 frames per second, hardware-accelerated ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and the Tempest Engine allowing for hardware-accelerated 3D audio effects. Other features include the DualSense controller with haptic feedback and backward compatibility with most of the PlayStation 4 games.

If you want to expand the storage on the PS5, you won’t be able to do so at launch, but you will be able to do so in the future if you have a Sony-certified M.2 SSD. We don’t know exactly when those SSDs will be accessible. The PS5 supports up to 8K output and promises 4K graphics with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Because of the console’s increased horsepower, you can expect to see ray tracing, which can lead to more realistic effects in-game environments such as reflections in windows.

The PS5 also supports 3D audio, which Sony claimed will allow you to “see with sound” in an August commercial. We don’t yet know how 3D audio will be used in games, and it’s worth noting that Sony tried to sell it as a feature on the PS4, so we’ll have to wait and see how much better 3D audio on the PS5 is. Maybe the $100 Pulse 3D wireless headset “fine-tuned for 3D Audio on PS5 consoles” is far more than just advertising and promoting. The PS5 has three USB-A ports, one at the front and the two on the back, as well as one USB-C port on the front. On the back of the console, there is also an Ethernet port and 802.11ax Wi-Fi (aka Wi-Fi 6).

Can your PlayStation 5 be backward compatible?

One of the most frequently asked questions about the PlayStation 5 console is whether it is compatible with previous-generation games. New consoles are always an expensive investment, and the PS5 is no exception (or easy to get). It’s understandable that gamers want to know if the PS5 will add value by being backward compatible with PS4 games.

In addition, the PS4 has a plethora of fantastic games. Even if you’ve never owned a PlayStation console, backward compatibility with the PS4 is an important factor to consider before purchasing a PS5. You’ll want to know if you’ll be able to play those PS4 classics.

So, will the PS5 support backward compatibility? The quick answer is yes! The PS5 is compatible with “the vast majority” of PS4 games. Sony attempted to work with developers and publishers on each individual title to ensure that each game can be played seamlessly on the new console. More than 4,000 PS4 games are backward compatible with the PS5. As long as the discs and downloaded games are compatible, this will work. The PS5 is not only backward compatible with PS4 games, but it may improve them. When played on PlayStation5, some PS4 games will have higher and smoother frame rates. Sony warns that some add-ons may lead to problems initially, so be cautious and test your games without add-ons to see where problems may arise.

Two Same PS5? Well, here’s how you can differentiate amongst them:

We already know that the PS5 is available in two versions: Standard Edition and Digital Edition, both of which will have the same specifications (with the exception of the omission of a disc drive with the Digital Edition). Sony, like Microsoft, is selling two versions of its upcoming next-generation console. A PS5 with a 4K Blu-ray drive can be purchased for $499.99. However, the Digital Edition PS5 can be purchased for $100 less, at $399.99. (which also looks noticeably thinner than its more expensive sibling). Unlike Microsoft, the only difference between those two versions is whether or not the console has a disc drive and how much each one costs.

The PS5 is powered by a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores and a custom AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based GPU with 10.28 teraflops of raw graphical power. The console also employs variable frequencies on both the PS5’s CPU and GPU, which could theoretically cause the graphics to run slightly faster than usual when the CPU isn’t at peak performance. Based on this technical presentation, it appears that the difference is minor. The game-changing SSD has 825GB of storage and throughput of 5.5GB/s, which could be quick enough for game developers to create levels.

Games that do not work after switching Playstations-

While most PS4 games can be played on the PS5, there are a few that are only available on the PS4. Here are the ones mentioned on Sony’s website.

  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe’s Diner

The good news is that Sony’s titles will continue to be compatible.

Physical disc versions of PS2 and PS3 games are not backward compatible with the PS5, though this may change in the future if Sony Interactive releases new information. PlayStation Now, or PS Now, on the other hand, is compatible with the PS5. PlayStation Now is a cloud-based streaming service from Sony that lets you choose which games to play across multiple generations of PlayStation consoles. Consider it similar to Netflix, but for PlayStation games. Some games appear to be available on PS Now indefinitely, while others expire after only a year. You’ll also have access to a plethora of PS2, PS3, and PS4 games via the service.

Unfortunately, PS5 games will not function on the PS4. PS5 games are designed specifically for the PS5’s updated internal hardware. As a result, they will not be compatible with the PS4’s internal hardware. PS5 games will work flawlessly with the PS5’s increased SSD speed, ray tracing, and 4K resolution. All of that technological goodness means that PS5 games will look fabulous on the PS5 console but will be unable to function with the PS4’s hardware components.

How do I move my games and saved data to my new PlayStation console?

If you still have both the PS4 and PS5, you’ll be relieved to know that all of your data can be transferred relatively easily. This can be accomplished via your local Wi-Fi network or via a tethered connection via a LAN cable. Here’s how to move your games and data:

  1. Connect the PS4 and PS5 to the same network and turn them on.
  2. Go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer > Continue on your PS5.
  3. Choose the PS4 from which you want to transfer data.
  4. The PS5 will display the message “Prepare for Data Transfer.” After that, hold down the PS4 power button until you hear a beep (at least one second).
  5. Choose the data to be transferred on the PS5.
  6. Select the Start Transfer option.
  7. Allow the process to complete.

PS5 Vs. PS4- Are the latest features true or just a marketing strategy?

Even a cursory examination of the PS5’s specifications reveals that it is in a different league than the PS4 (and even the PS4 Pro). Sony has enhanced the platform’s functionality throughout every manner, including more efficient storage, faster compute components, support for larger capacity discs, and support for higher resolutions. Throughout this comparison, we’ll go over the specifics of the majority of these specifications. Because the PS5 is a much newer console built on a different architecture, some of the specs should not be directly compared.

The PS5 and PS4 Pro, for instance, have the same count of computing units (CU), but the PS5’s CUs have a much higher transistor density, making them significantly more powerful than the PS4 Pro’s CUs.

Graphics-

The PS4 and PS5 are both based on custom AMD Radeon chips, with the latter packing significantly more power. Sony claims that the PS5 has twice the number of CUs and a significantly faster clock speed. The biggest difference between the two, however, is in the all-important TFLOPs. In short, the PS5’s graphical capabilities far outperform those of the PS4. The GPU in the PS5 will have much more cores, which will be faster and more efficient.

Display-

The enhanced graphical fidelity of the PS5 is presumably intended to push games to previously unseen resolutions. The PS5 supports 4K at 120Hz and 8K at variable refresh rates as defined by HDMI 2.1. In comparison, the base PS4 can output at 1080p, with resolution often decreasing in-game due to power consumption, while the PS4 Pro can output at 4K.

Near the end of the PS5’s life cycle, 8K displays will most likely become more common. For the time being, the emphasis is on 4K. The PS5’s main selling point is support for 120Hz displays, as there are already a plethora of TVs and monitors that support 4K and higher refresh rates. Assuming the GPU has the power to achieve 60 frames per second or higher.

Price-

With the vastly improved specs and SSD implementation, it stands to reason that the PS5 will be more expensive than the PS4. The Standard Edition will set you back $499.99, while the Digital Edition will cost $399.99. Given the PS5’s speed and the fact that it can play 99 percent of PS4 games, the value is undeniable. Once you have a PS5, you will have no need for a PS4.

Storage-

The PS5 does not have a storage capacity upgrade over the PS4, or at least not over the PS4 Pro. More storage is available in an original PS4, with the base PS4 model sporting 500GB storage and the PS5 shipping with 825GB. Later PS4 models or the Pro actually have less capacity, starting to lose 175GB.

Diversified section of Games-

Bloodborne, God of War, Until Dawn, Uncharted 4, and other excellent exclusive games are available for the PS4. Fortunately, you’ll be able to play those games on your PS5 (more on that later) — and in most cases, they’ll run and look better on the new machine. That’s what’s so great about the new system. Because of backward compatibility, all of your old PS4 games will still work on PS5. Of course, the real reason to get a PS5 is for the games, which will be plentiful this fall.
